A Day on Board Theresa Lima
Oleochemicals and Biofuels
Recently, we stepped on board Theresa Lima, one of Wilmar’s chemical tankers that transports edible oils across key trade routes to customers and oleochemical plants. The visit offered a closer look at the people, systems and discipline that support our global supply chain at sea.
Stretching 183 metres in length with a breadth of over 32 metres, Theresa Lima carries close to 50,000 tonnes of cargo at full load. Its scale is immediately striking, yet what stands out even more is the precision of its operations. On deck, an intricate network of pipelines and manifolds reflects the specialised handling required for such cargo. Even the paintwork is purposeful. Surfaces and zones are clearly colour coded to distinguish safe areas, caution and danger zones, radiation-controlled spaces and critical equipment. Every marking and boundary is intentional, reinforcing safety, clarity and operational discipline.
On the bridge (or wheelhouse), advanced navigation and cargo monitoring systems support each voyage across international waters. However, technology alone does not ensure safe passage. It is the experience and vigilance of the crew, working in close coordination with ports and terminals, that underpin the vessel’s performance.
Vessels such as Theresa Lima play an important role in Wilmar’s integrated business model. By strengthening our in-house logistics capabilities, we enhance supply chain reliability, safeguard product integrity and ensure timely delivery of our products around the world.
