Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management

Camera trap in Wilmar’s conservation area

Wilmar is actively protecting and documenting biodiversity across our plantation landscapes through a collaborative, science-based approach. Working together with academic institutions and conservation NGOs, we conduct systematic monitoring using tools such as camera traps and permanent vegetation plots to better understand species diversity, habitat conditions and ecological changes over time.

We also support and contribute to scientific publications based on research conducted within our concession areas, strengthening the knowledge base for sustainable landscape management. Beyond research, Wilmar implements comprehensive ecosystem management programs aimed at maintaining ecological functions and enhancing habitat connectivity. Several of our conservation areas have shown encouraging results, demonstrating the effectiveness of our integrated approach in protecting wildlife and sustaining healthy ecosystems within productive landscapes.

To expand our biodiversity conservation efforts, we have integrated biodiversity conservation as one of the key elements for our suppliers as part of the Supplier Guidelines. Referencing our NDPE policy and adherence to the HCV-HCS definitions, we prioritise the protection of forest and unique ecosystems, species, and landscape conservation, and maintaining community livelihood and food security.
