Certification

Certification is an important aspect in Wilmar’s sustainability journey and forms the basis for sustainable practices yielding to improvements in efficiency and productivity. To this extent, we benchmark our internal operations globally against various national and international sustainability standards and certifications to support the trade of sustainable palm oil and its derivatives in the market.

The International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) is an international certification system covering all kinds of bio-based feedstocks and renewables catering to energy, food, feed, and chemicals sectors. It incorporates sustainability criteria such as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable use of land, protection of natural biospheres and social sustainability. ISCC is a member of the UN Global Compact and supports other major international initiatives advocating sustainable supply chains.

Wilmar is a member of the ISCC association and has been an active user of the system since 2011 to facilitate its trades to European Union Renewable Energy market. Achieving ISCC certification enables delivery of products compliant with the sustainability criteria laid down by the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

As at year-end 2022, 20 mills and 25 downstream operations across our biodiesel supply chain are certified against the ISCC standard.

More information on ISCC can be found here.
