Certifications

Certification is an important aspect in Wilmar’s sustainability journey and forms the basis for sustainable practices yielding to improvements in efficiency and productivity. To this extent, we benchmark our internal operations globally against various national and international sustainability standards and certifications to support the trade of sustainable palm oil and its derivatives in the market.

In 2011, the Government of Indonesia under the Ministry of Agriculture introduced the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Certification as a mandatory requirement for all oil palm growers and millers operating in Indonesia with the objective to holistically address environmental issues plaguing the oil palm industry and thereby improve the competitiveness of Indonesian Palm Oil in the global market.

Wilmar has registered all its mills in Indonesia - 25 mills with their own plantations as well as 9 independent mills dependent entirely on 3rd party FFB supplies – for ISPO certification.

As at year-end 2022, a total of 15 out of 34 mills are certified to ISPO, of which five are part of the ten independent mills to be certified together with its farmer co-operatives. Wilmar is progressively working with other independent FFB suppliers and smallholders towards achieving ISPO compliance by 2025.
